Breast Surgery

A malignant tumour of breast epithelium whose diagnosis, prognosis and treatment depend on whether it is in situ or invasive, its stage, grade and ER, PR and HER2 profile.

A benign fibroepithelial breast lesion, usually presenting in adolescents or young adults as a smooth, firm, mobile lump; diagnosis depends on concordant clinical and imaging assessment, with biopsy or excision when the pattern is atypical.

Mastitis is breast inflammation on a spectrum from lactational inflammation to bacterial infection; a breast abscess is a drainable collection that needs urgent ultrasound assessment and drainage, while persistent or non-lactational inflammation needs a clear malignancy safety-net.
